The energy industry looks to maximize productivity and efficiency.

These two concepts are closely related to a good management of leading-edge assets and the best multi-expertise teams.

In GreenPowerMonitor, a DNV Company, we are aware of these fundamentals and work to provide the best tools and to support asset-management activities.

Multi-disciplinary teams join efforts to maintain high quality productions of the assets.

However, all facilities (whether photovoltaic farms, wind farms, energy storage systems, or hybrid solutions, among others) need constant control and maintenance to ensure efficiency.

Therefore, any desirable monitoring system should provide a detailed alert management tool that supports daily maintenance activities of operations team.

Working thoroughly with Operations and Management (O&M) teams has given us the expertise to discern what tools are most suited for maintenance activities.

The combination of GPM’s maintenance ticket system and alert grid controls allows experts to get a global oversight of status assets. Not only can operators identify what devices may be suffering shortages, they can also prioritize decisive actions to maintain a high level of production.

Indeed, operators are capable of coordinating both detective actions to correct errors and preventive actions to avoid failures while keeping track of past actions.

“Making a double gain from good alert management is the key, first to save available resources, and second, to guarantee the best possible performance” Miguel Ángel Campos Jiménez, Product Owner at GreenPowerMonitor, a DNV Company.

One of the most important duties for O&M teams is to identify key incidences, telling them apart among those that are less important. It is more necessary than ever to understand that managing alert grids is becoming increasingly complex in large facilities and energy systems.

GPM is constantly working on technical and managerial alert improvements.

To support operators to tackle this increasingly complex situation, we have developed a new alert status: “On hold”. Operators and managers can use this status to prioritize active alerts in the alert grid.

By keeping a clear view of the most urgent alerts, experts will be able to use their resources more efficiently. The “On hold” status is meant to be used for less important incidences, flaws that do not affect production performance, and temporary events that can be resolved in the short- or medium-term, among others.

Operators can also keep control of all alerts in a customized manner, modify their statuses as their severity changes over time. One of the fundamental aspects of this is that all information related to alerts that are on hold can be reported and assessed by the teams of experts. This creates a feedback cycle that helps them improve their own alert management processes.
