- In 6 years, GPM has gone from managing 500MW to more than 10GW in 22 countries, between Iberia and Latin America.
- Mexico leads the list with almost 3GW under management and more than 90 renewable projects.
- Chile ranks as the second country with the highest specific weight, with a 2GW portfolio and 115 projects.
A commitment to renewable energy in Latin America
In 2014 GreenPowerMonitor, a DNV GL company decided to bet decisively on the Latin American market and based its development strategy on projects that would help the growth of the renewable energy sector in Chile and Mexico.
In 2016, GPM’s Latin American portfolio reached 1GW out of a total of 8.2GW globally. That year, according to the “Global PV Monitoring 2016-2020” published by GTM Research, GPM was in the second position in the Utility-scale segment.
The evolution of our presence in the market
Since 2017 the company gained the trust of the sector and this has allowed it not only to participate in large projects that have helped the energy transition but also to improve access to renewable energy and to avoid the exposure of thousands of tons of CO2 to the atmosphere.
Currently, GPM is managing a portfolio of more than 10GW and 1,300 installations in 22 countries in Iberia and Latin America. This has allowed the company to lead the region with a market share close to 50% in 2020 where have stand out 1 plant of more than 500MW, 8 plants greater than 200MW, and 27 plants with capacities greater than 100MW. Besides, GPM has the presence of more than 100 GPM SCADA installed in plants that range between 3MW and 375MW.
As stated by Josep Berengueras, Regional Manager of Iberia and LATAM: “We began to work in the Latin American market with local resources in 2014 with a clear commitment to the region. In 6 years, we have practically gone from 0 to 10GW, something surprising that has happened thanks to the trust of our customers and collaborators in our monitoring solutions. Besides, we must highlight the work of the new resources to the team, Laura Casla, Country Manager, Chile and Chiara Secco, Country Manager Mexico and we must thank the GPM technical team that manages and take care of all the projects in the region in a coordinated way.”
Grid integration experience
The fact of working in 21 countries and connecting plants with the regulations of local operators, has allowed GPM to develop its GPM PPC with great success, which is currently the Power Plant Controller most used in projects in the region and which is capable to ensure a control system that guarantees that the plants comply with the network codes.
New perspectives
Shortly, the reduction in development costs will allow most of the demand come from clean energy. Therefore, GPM’s great commitment to Latin America is “to continue helping companies on their way to decarbonization and the energy transition, where digitization and especially advanced analytics will play a very relevant role”, as Josep Berengueras, Regional Manager Iberia & LATAM said.
